The Death of Hippolytus by Carle Vernet 1800

LYRICS

You know I love you; you know I want you now. You know I need you - you know I'll kiss your brow.

You know I'll take you to be my beautiful prize. You know I'll keep you free from any harm, now.

Take a ride, get away, can't you stay a little bit longer with me, now. Ride it in, take it out, move it down, leave it down, now.

Did you tell me you want me? Let me tell you, I want you, too... Did you say that you need me...

Need me to say that I love you?

You know I love you; you know I need you now. You know I want you - you knew that anyhow.

You know I'll take you to be my beautiful prize. You know I'll keep you...

Take you out on the inside.

Take a ride, get away, can't you stay a little bit longer with me, now. Ride it down, throw it down, keep it down, take it in, now.

Did you tell me you want me? Let me tell you, I want you to... Did you say that you need me...

Need me to say that I love you?

The fierce gallop of an enraged drum kit cuts through the veil of silence at the beginning of the track like a wild stampede of demon-possessed stallions. In the third bar, the lead electric Stratocaster joins in on top of the fray like a heroic cowboy trying to subdue the herd. Suddenly, in bar five, the other guitars and the bass join in the mix, and the main groove is in full frontal assault mode. Four bars later, a light, delicate tenor vocal nimbly floats above the foray, delivering its simple lyrical message. After this first verse is done, the guitars begin performing single stroke chimes that signal the beginning of the chorus that features a lot of tom hits and cymbal crashes. Harmony vocals join the lead voice and the two urgently ask their impassioned question. After this first chorus is over, the lead Strat returns and ushers in the second verse, which is followed by a final chorus. before returning one more time to close out the track.

This song is about a love that is completely out of control...

This love is like the death of Hippolytus who has lost total control of his chariot and is being dragged helplessly to his doom behind stampeding horses that have no intention of stopping whatsoever.
