The Zodiacon

Goat - Scorpio

The eighth sign of the Eastern zodiac is the character  that is pronounced “Wei.” The symbolic animal of this eighth earthly stem is generally thought of as being a sheep and is represented by the character , however, this character is also considered to be representative of the goat as well. It is a yin symbol of the fourth trine, and its fixed element is fire. Its assigned realm on the heavenly ecliptic consists of the portion that lies between the 210th and the 240th degrees, and it is the lord of the sixth lunar month, which lasts from July 7 to August 7. The hours of the sheep are from one to three in the afternoon.

The eighth sign of the Western zodiac is the symbol  that is commonly known as Scorpio. This sign is generally considered to be a scorpion, however, it also has a strong link to the mythological creature known as the phoenix. Like its Eastern counterpart, this symbol is a negative yin symbol of the passive nocturnal feminine. Its elemental designation is water and its quality is fixed. It possesses the same coordinates of the ecliptic as does the Eastern sign of the sheep, however, its yearly domain of influence is from October 23 to November 22 in the tropical system and from November 16 to December 15 in the Jyotish system.
