The Astronomical and Biological Spherical Energy Centers of Kundalini* * * * Mercury - Hydrargyrum 80Quicksilver. The hermetical hermeneutics of Hermes. The speedy winged messenger of the Gods. This metallic thermo-sensitive essence is credited throughout the ages with the employment of information. Its dual-serpentine symbol is universally recognized as the emblem of good health and medical acumen. This element that was once used extensively for healing purposes is still employed in modern day technological measuring devices such as thermometers, barometers, coulometers, and sphygmomanometers. At room temperature, this magical metal is a silvery colored liquid. This concept of flowing as being the common bond between these energy centers can be seen as the diurnal side of existence that is expressed in the symbol of the ancient Tao... The diurnal flow qualities of Sol and Mercury are expressed in the white upper portion of the Tao symbol while the diurnal flow of Mars is expressed in the lower white dot. The other side of the figure represents the vibratory essence in which the nocturnal qualities of Jupiter and Saturn are found in the lower black portion of the symbol while the nocturnal vibratory qualities of Venus are expressed by the upper black dot. The central intersection represents Luna and her role as the mediator between the two states of liquid and air; these two alchemical elements are expressive of the qualities of flow and vibration, respectively. Although more elucidation about this symbolism will be presented in the silver portion of the text, it is explained here in the mercury section so that the concept of “flow” and Mercury's central role in this process can be better understood. As one of the primary centers of the flowing diurnal element of existence, the currents of Mercury also act as a type of facilitator for the vibratory nocturnal currents of Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn as well. This is due to the fact that the vibratory expression of human existence is expressed in the sense of hearing; this aural sensory perception feeds directly into Sol. While Venus and its energies of the throat chakra do feed directly into the crown chakra of the pineal body, they are also mediated in their behavior by secretions from the pituitary gland of Mercury. So in this sense, Mercury's transcendental qualities serve a dual purpose in both the diurnal and nocturnal realms of human existence. This link of the mercurial with the cupric essence can be seen in the second syllable of Mercury's name. The second syllable of Mercury’s name is derived from the ancient biliteral stem that is composed of the letters Kaph/K and Resh/R and means either “hair” or “horn.” There is also a link to the word copper. This etymology can be seen in the words keratin, crown, corona, cornet, and cornucopia. So when the etymologies of all the syllables of the word mercury are combined, a composite meaning of “crown-flow” can be realized. By comparing the actual biological location of this spherical energy center with the etymology of the word mercury, one might discover some potential clues as to the actual nature and scientific functioning of some of this chakra's energetic frequencies that have yet to be detected and discovered by modern science. The name of this god in ancient Greece was Hermes. The name of Homer (the author of two of the most important works of ancient Greek literature) can also be linked etymologically to Hermes as well as the teacher of antiquity that is known as Hermes Trismegistus. All of these variations of this etymological theme are commonly associated with the distribution and flow of information. The biliteral root created from the letters Het/H and Resh/R lies at the foundation of this name and possesses the primitive meanings of “heat” and “burn” from which the words heat and heart emanate. From these basic meanings, the concept of “hatred” was also applied to this root; the etymology is readily apparent. From these accumulated usages, other meanings associated with qualities of the feminine seductive essence were created and can be seen in the words her, harlot, and harem. Also, there is a triliteral stem that is composed of the letters Het/H, Resh/R, and Mem/M; this stem is derived from the biliteral root mentioned in the last paragraph. This three-letter stem is at the etymological foundation of the names Hermes, hermetic, and hermetical. Its most fundamental meanings are “to shut in,” “to consecrate,” and “to separate.” Thus, in modern terminology, a hermetically sealed container is an airtight container, while the word harem is an amalgamation of the meaning “shut in” along with concepts dealing with the feminine seductive essence. This etymological connection is also found in the many of the names (in various languages) generally assigned to the ninth Tarot symbol, which represents the center currents of this spherical energy center. A hermit is an individual who is separated from the rest of humanity, and thus possesses an enormously brilliant light of individual wisdom and insight, primarily because of the separation from the obfuscatory currents of mass group magnetisms. The primitive essence of alchemical mercury is the processing of information and knowledge in a way that is highly pragmatic and sensible; therefore, mercury is the center of rational thought and logic. This basic truth is why this particular energy center is so favored amongst many of the ancient alchemists, who continually sing the praises of this metal over and over in their writings. Needless to say, mercury can be developed to a high degree merely by continued study and patient diligence. The relationship between the teacher and the student is almost completely composed of this liquid metal, and a proper relationship between these two entities produces an increase in the base level of mercurial ability in both parties. The student gains the information presented by the teacher, and the teacher learns how to better present this data. Thus, the proper connection that is derived from the basic energy of this metal usually produces a bond that benefits everyone associated with it. Astronomical Center
MercuryThis smallest of all planets in our solar system is also the nearest to Sol. It has the smallest axial tilt, which is only about one-tenth of a degree, which means that at the poles of Mercury, the sun never rises more than a fraction of a degree from the horizon. Mercury is also the only planet that does not possess a circular orbit but instead has an oval one; its orbital plane is in a seven degree variation from the orbital plane of Terra. No other planet’s orbital plane has more than a three degree variation from Terra’s orbital plane. All of these unique elements of this heavenly body suggest that this planet could provide a very pivotal role in many of the solar system’s energy exchanges that have yet to be discovered by the primitive techniques of modern science now in existence on the surface of Terra. One of the most unique features about Mercury, however, is its three to two spin-orbit resonance. This unique resonance occurs because Mercury revolves around Sol every 88 earth days while it rotates on its axis every 58.7 earth days. Thus, for every three rotations on its axis, Mercury revolves twice in its oval pattern around Sol. So with this type of celestial procession, Mercury produces an alternative type of orbital resonance that is musical equivalent of a perfect fifth. Even though it is a very small planet, Mercury does possess a substantial magnetic field, especially when the apparent strength of this field is compared to other heavenly bodies in the solar system of relatively equal or smaller size. This field of magnetism is powerful enough to generate a magnetosphere around Mercury. Because of the magnetic strength and might of this magnetosphere, the surface of Mercury seems to be relatively free from the presence of the solar wind. Due to the presence of some very deep craters near the poles on Mercury, it is believed that water may actually exist on this planet despite its relatively hot temperature, which is estimated to average around 450 degrees Celsius. Since it is believed that these craters may be deep enough to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, it has been postulated that much cooler temperatures may be present at the lowest parts of these craters. So much so, that water (maybe even ice) might exist within their depths. While there are numerous other possible explanations that might very well account for the radar reflection that has been observed within these craters, water and/or ice seem to be the most likely explanations. HypophysisAlso known as the hypophysis, the pituitary gland is an endocrine gland that is located at the base of the brain just above the roof of the mouth between the eyes. It is composed of three sections: the adenohypophysis, an intermediary lobe, and the neurohypophysis. The adenohypophysis secretes adrenocorticotropic hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone, growth hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and endorphins. The intermediary lobe produces melanocyte-stimulating hormone. The neurohypophysis secretes oxytocin, and anti-diuretic hormone. The hypophysis is controlled by the hypothalamus, and these two regions of the brain are collectively responsible for the human body’s hunger, thirst, and temperature regulation. This regulation of bodily heat is fully in accordance with the etymological aspects that were discussed in the last section. The trace element of mercury occurs naturally in the brain and provides a vital role necessary for correct biological functioning, even though this role has yet to be fully understood by Western science. Mercury is only harmful when it accumulates in excess. Optic ChiasmaThe optic chiasma is located right next to the pituitary gland and is the critical intersection where the two optic nerves (one from each eye) meet. The optic chiasma is the other section of the central part of the biological center of mercury since the two structures are directly adjacent to each other. Also, due to the fact that the optic chiasma is the location where the signals from the eyes intersect, the common name associated with this energy sphere (third eye chakra) becomes rather appropriate. The fact that this is where the signals from the eyes intersect is also a direct relationship to the transcendental themes associated with Mercury. The third eye chakra is also called the Ajna chakra and its Sanskrit spelling is… This biological energy sphere is represented by the Sanskrit letter… There is an etymological connection between the words ajna and eye, which correspond perfectly with the common name, location, and function of this chakra; however, the sense of smell also directly affects this energy center because of the openings of the nasal cavity that lead directly to its location within the skull. Inputs from the nervous system as well as visual stimulus also affect this area as well. All of these external inputs provide information to this area so a correct and balanced homeostasis can be maintained. The pituitary gland is the portal through which the brain controls all of lower spherical energy centers. Thyroid-stimulating hormone controls the sphere of copper. Adrenocorticotropic hormone controls the spheres of silver and iron by regulating the adrenal glands, and luteinizing hormone controls the energy sphere of lead by stimulation of the testes and ovaries. Summary of Esotericon DataThe active diurnal currents of the third eye chakra are represented by the second Tarot trump (Popess) and the name of the second letter (Beth/B) of the ancient alphabet, and the passive nocturnal frequencies of this chakra are represented by the 16th Tarot trump (Tower) and the name of the 16th letter (Ayin/O) of the ancient alphabet. The centered currents of the third eye chakra are expressed by the ninth Tarot trump (Hermit) and the name of the ancient letter Teth. The names of the ancient letters that are expressive of the energies of the third eye chakra possess meanings that are related to the concepts of "flow," "learning," and "crossing." The PopessThe right-handed currents of the third eye chakra are expressed in the second united pair (Popess - Beth/B). The central figure depicted in the Popess trump is holding a book resting on her lap with her left hand. Her right hand cannot be seen in the image (in the Noblet and Dodal versions). The name of the second letter of the ancient alphabet is the word Beth, which has the basic meaning of "built" and "building," and from this basic meaning, it has derivative meanings of "temple" and "family." The etymological similartites that exist with the words Beth, built, and building should be quite obvious. The Popess is the next level of ascension from the Empress trump. Her royal sceptre and shield are transformed into the book held by the left hand of the Popess. The Empress, who is the lady of service and action, ascends to the Popess, who is the holy lady of the temple. Therefore, the Popess expresses the concept of building knowledge and learning by means of contemplation, which is the act of dwelling on relevant information so that one may construct various conceptualizations. The TowerThe left-handed currents of the third eye chakra are expressed with the 16th united pair (Tower - Ayin/O). The image of this trump features a building (a tower) that is being struck by some type of burst emanating from the sun, which is located in the upper-right corner of the image. There are also two individuals that appear to be falling out of the tower that has been struck, and there are multi-colored circles appearing all over the image. The name of the letter Ayin has the basic meaning of "to flow." From this basic meaning, the meanings of "eye" (from the flowing of tears) and "fountain" are derived. The original shape (as well as the modern shape) of this ancient letter is that of a circle, due to the fact that its name means "eye." Also, it important to note that the biliteral root that forms the first consonant of the word mercury (Mem/M and Resh/R) also possesses the basic meaning of "to flow" and further represents the intimate relationship of this chakra with the navel chakra of Mars (the name of this planet is also formed from this biliteral root), which is the center of the water element. This image is a depiction of the ancient tale of the Tower of Babel found in the ancient text commonly referred to as Genesis. The word used to denote the concept of "tower" in the original ancient texts means "building;" however, the original word (created from the triliteral stem of the ancient letters Gimel/G, Daleth/D, and Lamed/L) has the meaning of "twist" in its most fundamental sense. Thus, the most accurate way to think of the actual term used in the original text to denote the concept of "tower" is to assign the definition of "building up with the strength that is inherent by twisting things together." This concept perfectly fits the design of the Hermetic caduceus, which is the symbol of Mercury. Since the third eye chakra is the energy sphere of Mercury, this definition of the original term is very appropriate and further confirms the overall placement theories presented within these texts. Therefore, buildings are destroyed by storms that bring flowing waters from the heavens and in the same way that the tears flowing from the eyes (indicative of extreme emotions) destroy constructions of the mind. The etymological similarity between the terms tear and tower should be obvious; the tears of Terra are raindrops of water from the air, and the heart chakra of Terra is the intersection of water and earth. Thus, the overall essence of the Tower is the destruction of constructions (built up with the strength of twisting things together) by an overflowing of the emotions. Sometimes, this destruction is good because the buildings were constructed from ideas permeated with evil; sometimes, this destruction is bad because the buildings that are destroyed were built with concepts of goodness. The Tower trump is the next level of ascension from The Star trump. The stars in the image of The Star are transformed into circles (like the letter Ayin/O), and the sun has now moved from the upper center portion of the image to the upper right side. The two vessels held by the nude lady of The Star trump are now the two individuals falling to the earth in the Tower trump. The Lantern and the Hermetic Staff of the HermitThe centered energies of the third eye chakra are represented in the symbolisms expressed in the ninth united pair (Hermit - Teth). The image presented in the Hermit trump displays an elderly man with a walking stick in his left hand and a lantern in his upraised right hand. The name of the ancient letter Teth possesses the meaning of "twist" from which the meanings of "serpent" (from the way that this creature twists) and "hunger" (from the twisting of the bowels). Thus, wisdom displayed in design of the Hermetic caduceus of Mercury is found in the basic symbolism that is expressed by this ninth united pair that consists of the Hermit trump and the name of the ancient letter Teth. The etymological similarities between the words hermit and hermetic should be rather obvious. The lantern of the right hand represents the guidance provided by the learning and building performed by the third-eye chakra's right-handed currents that are expressed by the Popess trump and her book of instruction. This light of knowledge illuminates the path of the wisdom-seeker so that further enlightenment may always be present within the psyche. In the left hand of the hermit is a walking staff that has been transformed from the emotional balance symbolized by the royal sceptre in the left hand of the central figure of the Wheel of Fortune trump. Thus, the Hermit's staff is symbolic of the Hermetic caduceus of the twin twisting serpents. This ancient symbolism is the next level of ascension from the design of the wheel found in the Wheel of Fortune trump of the throat chakra. This design originates in the basic form of the arch that is expressed in the Strength trump of the heart chakra. Thus, the arch becomes the wheel that transforms into the twisting caduceus. The wheel itself now forms the foundation of the "crossing over" or the transcendental essence of Mercury. In the ancient tales, Mercury was the god that dealt with transcendental themes. This type of essence is the form of "crossing over" that is expressed in the geometric design of the caduceus as the two serpents cross over each other in order to strengthen the overall design that is created by the two of them. Therefore, the symbolic essence of the letter Teth that expresses the concept of "twisting" is the actual strength that is employed to build (as in the definition of the letter Beth) through twisting (as in the original meaning of the word tower in the ancient tale of the Tower of Babel). It is this foundation that is the transcendental essence of Mercury and the Hermit trump of Hermes. * * * * BACK - INDEX - NEXT |
